What was your journey like after Aiglon?
After Aiglon, I moved to London and went on to pursue my passion for the arts at the prestigious Central Martin’s School of Art and Design in London where I got my master’s degree in Fine Art. At the same time I studied business management at the University of Westminster.
Is there anything you learned at Aiglon that still resonates with you today?
Many things! Leaving India aged 11 years old to come to a boarding school in Switzerland was certainly character building. I have learnt resilience and strength and also felt very at home in Switzerland. Aiglon’s emphasis on extracurriculars drove me to love the outdoors too and I got really into trekking and skiing and developed a certain fondness for nature and learnt to appreciate the aesthetic value of things. I have many fond memories of setting out on summer expeditions and camping out with friends and I loved the sheer beauty of the Alps. To be able to move from the boardroom to the wilderness in my work today with ease is quite enjoyable.
Why did you want to go into the hospitality industry?
When I returned to India after Aiglon I actually succeeded my father as chairperson of the Anand Group, a leading supplier of automotive systems and parts, and today I chairperson of Gabriel India Limited, the group's 60 year old publicly listed flagship company. Hospitality has always been a part of my life, it is in the DNA of my family and I believe one of the most defining characteristics of our Indian culture is exceptional hospitality.
This combined with a childhood spent in Switzerland, during my years studying at Aiglon College enabled me to learn to appreciate the aesthetic value of things as I mixed with peers from around the world and shared in new experiences. When I met my husband Jasial, he had already begun SUJÁN Sher Bagh, nestled on the borders of Ranthambhore National Park. We share many of the same passions and so it seemed totally natural to grow SUJÁN together to what it is today. We have two more wilderness camps in the collection, SUJÁN JAWAI & SUJÁN The Serai.

What advice would you give to anyone starting a new venture?
If you are firm and persuasive, you can really get very far! And remember the importance of these two very important things – Communication or the ability to communicate, and the ability to listen!
What has been a career highlight so far?
I am in a fortunate position to say there have been many, to keep being recognised on a global stage for all the work we do is huge privilege!
